Incubators/Certified Tech Parks

A growing number of research incubators and certified technology parks are cropping up all over the state, each focused on taking and turning the best research ideas into commercially viable opportunities.

The university-related incubators are playing a vital role in preparing life sciences entrepreneurs and are making an impact statewide. Purdue Research Park was named the country’s outstanding university research park by the Association of University Research Parks in 2004.  Purdue now has four incubator facilities extending from Merrillville to New Albany and West Lafayette to Indianapolis. Indiana University’s incubator, the Emerging Technology Center, offers 67,500 square feet of space in downtown Indianapolis. Construction of the IU Bloomington Incubator, at 40,000 square feet, is currently underway with completion expected in July 2009.  Innovation Park at Notre Dame is currently under construction and will be ready for tenants this fall. The park's first facility, a three-story, 55,000-square-foot building adjacent to campus, supports Notre Dame’s recent dramatic surge in research activities, including life sciences research.  The Park will house dedicated wet labs for life sciences companies, and connect new ventures with market experts in the field to help facilitate successful commercialization.
