BioCrossroads is working to expand science and math education in grades K-12 and higher learning institutions through partnerships with our higher education institutions, the state, and business leaders.
We also spread the word about Indiana’s life sciences sector through marketing efforts and speaking engagements. BioCrossroads promotes our life sciences strengths, successes and opportunities within the State of Indiana – and far beyond.
Starting with some truly home-grown advantages, including the nation’s second largest medical school and longstanding leadership in engineering programs, some of the nation’s largest and most successful business incubation and acceleration facilities, and major new national centers for nanotechnology research, Indiana’s research institutions complement the size, specialties and strengths of our life and biosciences corporate sector. Our life sciences academic institutions, including Indiana University, the IU School of Medicine, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame, are highly collaborative, and work regularly together through important multi-university initiatives such as the Indiana Innovation Alliance and the new, federally funded Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. These institutions provide the intellectual underpinning for our life sciences sector today, through innovative research and technology transfer. And they are training and graduating the thousands of engineers, medical professionals, biochemists, health informaticians and other life and biosciences-related professionals that will be Indiana’s life sciences leaders of tomorrow.
Preparing our state’s younger minds for future life sciences job opportunities is equally important. Along with our partners in universities and colleges across Indiana, BioCrossroads has spearheaded the creation and deployment of the Indiana Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (I-STEM) Resource Network to improve K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics education through effective teacher training and curriculum development.
